What We Do

Allied Motion is a professional modern dance company located in Altoona.  We are a collaborative and integrative company, working with as many varied artists as possible to expand the vision of dance.  Our mission is threefold:

• To provide high quality, professional dance performances to the Altoona community.  At the present time, Allied Motion is the only professional dance company in Blair County.  We present three formal concerts each year, each with a combination of new and existing repertory pieces, and we seek audiences of all ages and experiences.

• To expand the vision of dance.  We achieve this in two ways:  by integrating the art of dance with the other performing and visual arts, thus enriching the experience for both the audience members and collaborating artists; and, by using alternative spaces for improvisational performance.

• To provide an alternate experience of dance and movement for students, beyond what can be realized in typical studio-based classes.  We do this in the schools, through the Arts in Education Program; in workshops, through the Children’s Dance Theatre Project; and at the university level, through the company’s apprentice program.
